Laura Plantation Tour with Transportation from New Orleans
Four original slave cabins from the 1840s still stand on the grounds.
Laura Plantation tour is a guided visit to a working sugarcane plantation established in 1805, located outside New Orleans, with transportation included from your hotel. The tour covers approximately two hours on-site: a one-hour-ten-minute guided walk through the mansion, a self-guided tour of the grounds, and access to four original slave cabins built in the 1840s. Your driver speaks English and the air-conditioned vehicle handles all transport; you choose between an 8:30 AM or 10:30 AM departure.
Step-by-step itinerary
Laura Plantation guided and self tour
- Arrive at Laura Plantation
- Take one hour ten minute guided mansion tour
- Explore grounds and slave cabins self-guided
- Visit gift shop and grab a snack
The Experience
Laura Plantation tells the story of West African and Amerindian workers whose skills built the Louisiana colony and shaped Creole culture—visible today in language, cuisine, music, architecture and family traditions. The plantation began in 1805 with seven enslaved people and grew to 186 workers by the Civil War. After emancipation in 1866, most remained in the quarters; descendants still live near the plantation today. The four original slave cabins, built in the 1840s and inhabited until 1977, anchor the historical record on the grounds.
The day runs about six and a half hours total, with roughly two hours spent at the plantation itself. Your guide leads a one-hour-ten-minute tour through the mansion, then you walk the grounds at your own pace and view the slave cabins. The gift shop and a snack area are available before you depart. Transportation is handled—the air-conditioned vehicle picks you up from your hotel and returns you there, so you don't arrange a separate ride or navigate to the site on your own.
Choose the 8:30 AM departure if you want to finish by early afternoon, or the 10:30 AM slot if you prefer a later start. Both options include all fees, taxes and transport. The tour suits all fitness levels; infants and small children can bring a stroller or pram. During the drive, the operator asks travelers to keep quiet as a courtesy to others sharing the vehicle.

What exactly is inside the Laura Plantation mansion that the guide shows you?
The guided tour of the mansion itself runs one hour and ten minutes and covers the main house. The operator's material does not detail which rooms or artifacts are included in that walk, so ask the guide when you arrive or contact the plantation directly before your tour date for specifics on what the interior tour covers.
Does the tour include lunch or a meal?
The plantation has a snack area you can visit before you depart, but a full meal is not part of the tour. You have time to grab something quick if you want, but plan accordingly if you need a substantial lunch.
What time does the tour end and get back to my hotel?
The entire tour is about six and a half hours, so an 8:30 AM start returns you around 3 PM, and a 10:30 AM start returns you around 5 PM. The exact return time depends on your hotel location and traffic, but the operator includes the full round-trip transport in the price.
Can I bring children or babies on this tour?
Yes—the tour is suitable for all fitness levels. Infants and small children can bring a pram or stroller to use on the grounds and during the self-guided cabin viewing.
