The experience

I didn’t really know what to expect walking into the V Theater at Planet Hollywood for the LIOZ Comedy Magic Show. There was this weird mix of anticipation and “what have I gotten myself into?” The crowd was already buzzing. Someone behind me kept whispering about seeing him on TV. The lights felt almost too bright, but then Lioz came out in this over-the-top getup, grinning like he knew something we didn’t. And honestly? He did.

The whole thing is a parody of those big-deal magicians: think Copperfield but if he’d had a few too many Red Bulls and zero filter. Lioz does these tricks that almost make sense, then flips them upside down with some joke or ridiculous twist. At one point he tried reading someone’s mind in the front row (the poor guy just laughed and shook his head), and somehow it turned into an impromptu dance-off. I nearly snorted my drink when he started miming a dove act with what looked like a rubber chicken. He called out to people by name (well, sort of), and kept breaking character just enough that you couldn’t tell what was real anymore.

There’s this moment where you realize everyone around you is laughing for totally different reasons: some at the magic, some at the jokes, some because it’s just so off-the-wall. It’s adults-only for a reason (don’t bring your grandma unless she swears more than you do). The Miracle Mile Shops outside were still echoing with music when we stumbled out after the show, still giggling about that bit with the floating table. I won’t spoil it, but I’m still not sure how he pulled it off or if he even meant to.
