The Experience
You leave San Francisco in the morning and drive toward Lake Tahoe through the Sierra Nevada, stopping for photos along the way. The route passes through Sacramento and California's Gold Country before climbing into the mountains. Once you arrive at the lake, the day opens up: in winter you can ski at Heavenly, Sierra, Alpine Meadows, North Star or Squaw Valley; in summer, swim at state beaches, hike to waterfalls, or take a water sports class. If you'd rather sightsee, your guide will take you around the lake to Emerald Bay, Cave Rock, Logan Shoals Vista Point, Fanny Bridge and the Truckee River in Tahoe City, then to either Heavenly Village on the South Shore or Squaw Valley on the North Shore. You'll eat dinner at a restaurant with views over the water and stay overnight at a 4-star hotel.
Day two is a full scenic loop around Lake Tahoe with stops for photos and exploration. In summer and fall you can visit both the California and Nevada shores, swim at additional beaches, or sign up for water sports—helicopter tours, paddleboarding, kayaking—on the spot. In winter, the gondola at Heavenly or the aerial tram at Squaw Valley takes you up for panoramic views, or you can rent a snowmobile and ride into the backcountry. Your guide knows the hidden spots and will take you somewhere unexpected. You return to San Francisco the same afternoon.
The vehicle is a deluxe 4x4 with air conditioning and bottled water. You can book either a private minibus or a private SUV depending on your group size. Pickup and drop-off at your San Francisco location are included, as are all taxes. The hotel is booked in advance to avoid weekend crowds. Meals beyond breakfast are your choice, and any rental equipment, ski lessons or resort lift tickets are arranged separately.
