Paddle past sea lions at Seal Rock, not from a boat deck

Guided kayaking along Laguna Beach's rugged coastline with a live English-speaking guide, covering hidden coves and Seal Rock in 90 minutes. You start with a safety briefing and paddle-technique instruction on the beach, then paddle north past the surf zone to the sea lion haul-out. Snorkel gear is available if you want it. Life vest and tandem kayak are included.

The experience

The session opens on the beach with a safety briefing and basic paddle and turning technique, so you're ready before the water. Once everyone's comfortable, you head out past the surf zone into the channel for an easy paddle north along the coast. The route passes a string of hidden coves carved into Laguna Beach's cliffs, each one a stop to look around before moving on.

Seal Rock sits at the north end of the beach, and that's where the sea lions are. You paddle out to it as part of the regular route, not as a bonus or a maybe. It's built into the 90 minutes. The guide is with you the whole way, and the kayak is a tandem, so you're paddling alongside other people, not alone. If you want to snorkel, the gear is there. If you don't, you skip it and just paddle and watch.

Is this one for you?The 90-minute window leaves the rest of your day open, so this works as a morning or afternoon activity without eating into other plans. It's a hands-on paddle, not a spectator tour, so you're in the kayak the whole time. Choose this if you want to move through the water yourself rather than watch from a boat.

Top questions

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What's the water like when I paddle out from Laguna Beach?

You start in the channel past the surf zone, so the paddling is easy once you're out. The water is clear enough to see the coastline and the coves as you move north. Sea lions, dolphins and whales are part of the regular wildlife here, though sightings aren't guaranteed on every trip.

Do I need kayaking experience to book this?

No. The guide teaches paddle and turning technique on the beach before you leave, and the route is designed as an easy paddle. You should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness, and the 90 minutes includes the instruction and the paddle out and back.

Can I bring my own snorkel gear or do I have to use theirs?

Snorkel equipment is available as an optional add-on. You're not required to snorkel at all. If you want to bring your own, check with the operator before you book.

How do I get to the beach where the kayaking starts?

Public transportation options are available nearby, and the operator can tell you the exact meeting point and parking details when you book.
