The experience
The Indian River Lagoon is one of North America's most biodiverse estuaries, and a kayak puts you inside it. You paddle through winding mangrove tunnels where the water narrows and the trees close in, then out into open bays where the lagoon widens. A certified Florida Naturalist guides the route and stops to point out what lives here (dolphins, manatees, wading birds, crabs), and explains how the ecosystem works. The paddle takes 2 hours total.
Kayak, paddle and life jacket are provided. You launch from the operator's base and paddle around Browns Bay and Little Snapper Cut, the two sections that hold the most wildlife and the densest mangrove cover. The guide's job is to read the water and the animals, not to rush. The pace stays slow enough to spot movement and hear the naturalist explain what you're seeing. All skill levels paddle this route, and children from age 6 can join.
