Puzzle your way out together, not alone in the dark.

The Escape Game at Country Club Plaza in Kansas City offers five distinct escape room adventures where teams of up to eight work together to solve puzzles, find clues and complete a mission in 60 minutes with a live guide. Each game—Timeliner, Prison Break, Special Ops, Gold Rush, or The Depths—is designed for excitement and adventure rather than fear; a dedicated game guide briefs you before and helps during play, and you can leave at any time through an exit button.

The Experience

What makes this different from a typical escape room is the setup itself. You're not locked in a dark space trying to figure out what to do. A live guide walks you through the mission briefing, explains the rules, and stays available throughout your 60 minutes to offer hints if your team gets stuck. The games aren't designed to scare you—they're built around adventure and teamwork, which is why they work for groups ranging from teenagers to adults. You'll spend about 15 minutes getting oriented before the clock starts, then 60 minutes solving puzzles and finding clues, then another 15 minutes debriefing and taking photos after you escape (or time runs out).

The five games each have their own premise. Timeliner sends you on a train through time to save the future. Prison Break is a daring escape from an evil warden. Special Ops puts you undercover as a secret agent uncovering truth at a mysterious market. Gold Rush has you hunting for hidden fortune. The Depths takes you on an underwater submarine mission. You pick which one appeals to your group at checkout, and up to eight people can play together. Unless you book the entire room, other teams may join yours—that's how the operator keeps games running and prices down, but it also means you're solving puzzles alongside strangers who become part of your team for the hour.

The location at Country Club Plaza puts you steps from restaurants and shops, so a pre-game meal at The Cheesecake Factory or Brio Italian Grille, or a post-escape celebration with cupcakes from Cupcake A La Mode, fits naturally into the afternoon or evening. The games are recommended for ages 13 and up; younger players can join if an adult 18 or older participates with them and signs their waiver. Service animals are welcome, and the experience is suitable for all fitness levels since you're moving through a room solving puzzles, not climbing or running.

Top questions

Can I leave the escape room if I feel uncomfortable or claustrophobic?

Yes. Every room has an exit button you can press at any time if you need to leave. The games aren't designed to be scary or dark, and the guide is there to help you feel comfortable throughout the experience.

What happens if my team doesn't escape in 60 minutes?

The game ends after exactly 60 minutes whether you've escaped or not. You'll still get the debrief and photo session afterward, and the guide will walk you through what you missed and how close you came to finishing.

Will other people be in the escape room with my group?

Unless you book all eight spots in a game, other teams may join yours. This is how The Escape Game keeps games running regularly and prices competitive, but it also means you'll be solving puzzles as part of a larger team of strangers.

How much time should I plan for the whole experience?

Plan for about 90 minutes total. You'll spend 15 minutes in a briefing and setup before the 60-minute game starts, then another 15 minutes debriefing and taking photos after the game ends.

Which escape room game should I choose if this is my first time?

Any of the five work for first-timers since they're all designed to be exciting and solvable with teamwork. Timeliner and Gold Rush tend to appeal to groups new to escape rooms, but Special Ops and Prison Break are popular with teams who want a stronger narrative. The Depths is one of the newest and offers a unique submarine setting.

Do I need any experience solving puzzles to play?

No. The games are built for mixed skill levels and rely on teamwork and communication as much as individual puzzle-solving. Your live guide is there to help if your team gets stuck, so you're not left frustrated or abandoned.
