A stained glass class in Kailua Kona on the Big Island teaches cutting, grinding, foiling and soldering to beginners and experienced makers alike. You work one-on-one or in a small group with instructors Sheri and Doug Reynolds, learn the full process, and take home a finished sun catcher the same day. All materials are provided. The studio overlooks the ocean.

The experience

Kailua Kona's stained glass studio sits with a full ocean view, and the class runs 3.5 hours from start to finish. You'll learn the core techniques (cutting glass to shape, grinding the edges smooth, wrapping each piece in foil, and soldering the joints together) all guided by hands-on instruction tailored to your pace. The studio stocks a wide range of glass colors and textures, so the piece you design is yours alone. No experience required. The instructors work with anyone picking up the craft for the first time.

Materials, tools and all the glass you need are included in the class fee. By the end of the session, you walk out with a finished sun catcher ready to hang: no assembly at home, no waiting for anything to ship. The personalized attention means you're not watching a demonstration. You're making the thing yourself, with real-time feedback as you work through each step.
