The Experience

You meet at Sawfish Bay Park off Alt A1A in Jupiter and paddle out onto Lake Worth Creek Aquatic Preserve, a sheltered route that keeps you in calm water even when the ocean beyond it is rough. The guide—a Florida native and master naturalist—knows where manatees rest in the shallows, where dolphins hunt in the channels, and which sandy spots hold horseshoe crabs and juvenile sea turtles. The paddle follows back water south of the Loxahatchee River, crossing over to Fullerton and Sawfish Island; if conditions hold, you'll reach the Jupiter sandbar where the water clears enough to see the bottom.

All paddling equipment comes with you: board, paddle, life jacket and whistle are included, along with filtered drinking water. The route takes 1 hour 45 minutes and is designed for beginners—no prior experience required, though moderate fitness helps. The guide watches for birds, rays, turtles and fish throughout the paddle, and the slow pace means you're not racing between stops; you're moving at island time, which is the whole point.
