The experience
The shuttle picks you up in town and drives you to a shore fishing spot where you spend roughly 2 hours in the water. You'll wear boot-foot waders and cast a spin rod supplied by the guide, using lures they provide. The five species you can target (chinook, coho, pink, chum and sockeye salmon, plus dolly varden) run at different times through the season, so what's biting depends on when you book. The terrain is rugged and the tide shapes how far you walk, so you need to be comfortable covering at least a mile on foot.
Weather in the rainforest shifts fast, so bring a raincoat and layers you can peel off. The guide teaches you local fishing techniques and stays with you the whole time. Fish activity is never certain, the operator doesn't guarantee a catch, but they do guarantee the scenery, the authentic experience and a guide who knows the water. You'll need to buy your Alaska fishing license and king salmon stamp ($30 for anyone 16 and older) on the Alaska Department of Fish and Game website before you arrive. The operator cannot purchase them for you.

Is this one for you?The 3-hour time commitment (roughly 2 hours on the water plus travel) fits into a port day or a morning in Juneau without consuming the whole afternoon. Children from age 6 can join, and the operator welcomes all fitness levels, though the mile-plus walk on rugged terrain and time in waders is the real physical demand here.

Do I need a fishing license to fish in Alaska?
Yes. You must buy an Alaska fishing license and a king salmon stamp ($30 total for all ages 16 and older) on the Alaska Department of Fish and Game website before your tour. The operator cannot purchase them for you, so plan ahead.
How far do I walk to reach the fishing shore?
