The experience
The ticket opens both museums for a full week, so you can spend an afternoon at one, return to the other days later, or tackle both in a single day if the schedule works. Jamestown Settlement holds 30,000 square feet of galleries built around the three cultures that met in Virginia (Powhatan Indian, English and west central African) with over 500 rare artifacts, interactive displays and a 4D theater where Bacon's Rebellion unfolds with special effects. Costumed interpreters demonstrate daily life in early Virginia. You can climb aboard recreations of the three ships that brought colonists across the Atlantic, walk through a re-created Paspahegh Town and explore the colonial fort.
The American Revolution Museum at Yorktown occupies 22,000 square feet of exhibition space focused on the founding of the nation. Nearly 500 period artifacts fill immersive environments and interactive displays. A 180-degree surround-screen 4D theater shows the Siege of Yorktown. Hands-on stations let you join an artillery crew to fire the cannon, enlist in a re-created Continental Army encampment or work the re-created Revolution-era farm. A live guide in English is available at both sites to walk you through the exhibits and answer questions about the people and events on display.
Both museums sit open year-round from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with free parking at each location. The 23-mile Colonial Parkway connects them, a scenic drive through the Virginia countryside. You bring printed vouchers to redeem at the ticket counter. Cafes and museum shops operate at both sites if you need food or want to browse. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The ticket is valid for seven consecutive days only, so plan your visits within that window.
