The experience
You arrive at iFLY Minneapolis and put on your gear, then work through a specialized training session with a certified flight instructor who teaches you how to position your body in the wind tunnel. The instructor explains how the 800-horsepower vertical wind tunnel works, the same technology professional skydivers use, and what to expect when the wind speed climbs. Once you step into the flight chamber, the tunnel operator gradually increases the airflow until you're airborne, floating in wind speeds between 130 and 175 mph. Your instructor stays with you the entire time, adjusting your position and keeping you stable in the column of air.
You get two separate flights, each lasting 60 seconds, with your instructor right there guiding you through the free-fall sensation. The wall-to-wall airflow keeps you suspended safely, and there's no risk of falling off the column. Between flights and after you're done, you have time to catch your breath and process what just happened. The whole experience (training, both flights, gear setup and takeoff) takes about 75 minutes from the moment you walk in.
You leave with a personalized flight certificate documenting your achievement. All taxes, fees and handling charges are included in the price, so there are no surprises at checkout. The facility welcomes service animals and is designed for all fitness levels. The only restrictions are medical (previous injuries to the neck, back, heart or shoulders, pregnancy, or a hard cast will prevent you from flying), and weight limits apply above 300 lbs, with individual evaluation for flyers between 260 and 300 lbs.
