The experience

iFLY Naperville uses an 800-horsepower vertical wind tunnel to create the same free-fall conditions skydivers experience jumping from a plane: except you stay inside an enclosed chamber with a wall-to-wall cushion of air holding you aloft. A certified flight instructor walks you through a training session on the ground, then stays with you one-on-one inside the tunnel while the operator gradually increases wind speed until you're floating. The adrenaline hits fast: wind speeds climb to 130 to 175 mph, and the stable airflow keeps you suspended without falling off the column of air.

You fly twice during the session, each flight lasting 60 seconds with your instructor right there to guide your body position and movements. Between flights and the training, the whole experience takes about 75 minutes. Groups can be up to six people, but each person gets their own dedicated instructor time in the tunnel. Afterward, you take home a personalized certificate of flight achievement.

Wear lace-up sneakers and comfortable clothes. All flight gear is provided. The facility accommodates ages 3 and up, and children under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign the waiver. If you have a history of neck, back, shoulder or heart issues, are pregnant, or wear a hard cast, you won't be able to fly.
