The experience
You start by helping get your horse ready and tacked up, then take a short lesson in the arena before you mount. That hands-on setup means you're not just a passenger. You're part of the preparation. Then you cross the road to the park entrance and ride into the canyon, where the landscape opens into wide grassy vistas and wildflower meadows. The trail winds through shady arroyos and oak forests, and your guide will stop at a good spot for a photo, though phones stay away during the ride itself.
What makes this ride different is what you're riding through: the recovery zone of the 2018 Woolsey fire. You'll see the residue and regrowth firsthand, which adds a layer of natural history most LA-area rides don't offer. Depending on your riding ability, your guide may take you to Sulphur Springs or show you the old Morrison Family cattle operation from the last century. The ranch accommodates all levels from beginner to expert, and the horses are described as safe and fun to ride. Wear comfortable clothes that let you move freely on and off the horse: no high heels, sandals or flip-flops.
The ride sits just outside the Los Angeles sprawl, far enough that you leave behind the traffic and smog. Free parking is on site across from the hay barn. Guides are available in English, Spanish and Italian. Children from age 9 can join. The weight limit is 235 pounds. Arrive on time since this is a scheduled event and won't be extended if you're late.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English, Spanish and Italian.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (9 to 17 years). Under 9: they can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. No refund if you cancel.
What's the actual riding experience like if I've never been on a horse before?
Beginners are welcome and the ranch accommodates all levels. You'll help saddle your horse, get a short lesson in the arena, then ride on a guided trail where the guide sets the pace. The horses are described as safe and fun to ride, and your guide will be with you the whole time.
Will I actually see wildflowers, or does that depend on the season?
The ride is called a wildflower trail and passes through wildflower meadows, though what's in bloom will vary by season. The route also includes wide grassy vistas, oak forests and shady arroyos, so there's landscape to see regardless of what's flowering on the day you go.
Can I see Sulphur Springs on every ride, or is that only for advanced riders?
Sulphur Springs is optional depending on your ability level. Your guide will decide whether to include it based on your riding experience and comfort, so it's not guaranteed on every ride.
What should I wear, and what if I show up in the wrong shoes?
Wear comfortable clothing that lets you move freely getting on and off the horse. Avoid high heels, sandals, flip-flops or restrictive designer wear. If your shoes don't work, contact the ranch before you arrive to confirm whether they can accommodate you.
