Step-by-step itinerary

Morning kayaking and nature tour

  • Check in and receive specialty coffee
  • Attend paddle clinic with guide
  • Kayak through calm Broad Creek waters
  • Explore small marsh waterways
  • Learn about Hilton Head ecosystem and wildlife
  • Spot birds and Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins

The Experience

You arrive early—that's the whole point. The morning water on Broad Creek is calm and quiet, with far less boat traffic than midday brings. After check-in, you get a specialty-brewed coffee (a portion of the proceeds go to manatee conservation), then your guide runs a short paddle clinic to make sure you feel solid with the paddle and the kayak before you leave the dock. It takes maybe fifteen minutes, and it's the difference between paddling confidently and paddling nervous.

The route follows Broad Creek's protected waters through small marsh channels where the guide points out the ecosystem—the trees, the tidal patterns, the history of Hilton Head itself. You'll see wading birds regularly and have real chances of spotting Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins. The guide paddles with you, not ahead of you, so you can ask questions and keep pace without rushing. The whole paddle takes about an hour and a half, and by the time you're back at the dock, the day has properly started.

Life jackets, paddles and the kayak itself are all included. You choose between a tandem kayak (two people in one boat) or a single kayak when you book. Single kayakers need to be at least 14 years old; younger paddlers can ride tandem with an adult. The weight limit is 400 pounds per kayak, and you should have at least a moderate fitness level for paddling—it's not strenuous, but it does ask something of your shoulders and core.

What’s included

  • Kayak and paddle for each paddler.
  • life jacket.
  • specialty-brewed coffee or tea at check-in.
  • trained local guide leading the full route.
  • instruction on paddling technique before launch.

Is this one for you?Book a tandem kayak if you want to paddle together as a couple or with a friend; choose a single kayak if you prefer paddling on your own and you're 14 or older. The early morning timing is what keeps the water calm and the wildlife active—if you're a first-time kayaker or you want the best chance of seeing dolphins, this is the hour that delivers both.

Top questions

What's the water like on Broad Creek in the morning?

Broad Creek is a protected body of water, so it stays calm and quiet in the early hours. The morning timing means minimal boat traffic, which is why the guide chooses it—you get a peaceful paddle instead of navigating around jet skis and fishing boats.

Will I actually see dolphins on this tour?

Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins live in Broad Creek, and the guide has good chances of spotting them, especially in the morning when the water is quieter. There's no guarantee on any given day, but sightings are common enough that the guide actively looks for them as part of the route.

Do I need kayaking experience to book this?

No experience is required. The guide runs a paddle clinic before you leave the dock to teach you the basics and make sure you're comfortable with the paddle and the kayak. You should have at least a moderate fitness level, but the pace is steady and the guide stays with you throughout.

Can my 7-year-old paddle their own kayak?

Children as young as 5 can participate, but single kayaks are for paddlers 14 and older. Your 7-year-old would ride in a tandem kayak with an adult in your party, paddling together.

What's included in the tour price?

The kayak, paddle, and life jacket are all included for each person. You also get a specialty-brewed coffee or tea at check-in, and an experienced local guide leads the entire paddle and explains the ecosystem and wildlife along the way.

How long does the whole experience take?

The tour is about 90 minutes on the water, plus time for check-in and the paddle clinic before you launch. Plan for roughly two hours total from arrival to departure.
