The experience
You start on a premium electric mountain bike (either a Specialized Kenevo Expert or Husqvarna Extreme Cross-10) fitted to your size before you leave. The trail combines paved sections and fire roads, and the motor handles the climbing so you can focus on the ride itself. As you pedal toward the Hidden Grotto, the route opens onto canyons and ocean views that shift the way Malibu looks from the road. The guide rides with you and sets the pace for a beginner-level group.
Once you reach the Hidden Grotto and Waterfall, you leave the bike behind and hike into the canyon. The waterfall feeds a pool deep enough to swim in, and most of the time here is yours: to wade, photograph the rock formations, or just sit in the shade. The water is cold and the canyon walls are tall enough that it feels like a different landscape entirely, even though you're still in Malibu.
The ride back follows the same trail downhill, which is faster and easier on the legs. Total time is around 3 hours from start to finish. You get full protective gear (7IDP knee and elbow pads, gloves, and eyewear), and bottled water throughout the day. No experience is necessary. The electric assist means the bike does the work on climbs, and the guide adjusts the route to match the group's comfort level.
