The experience
You start at the trailhead where the guide fits you with microspikes and walking poles, not snowshoes, which makes a real difference on the terrain. The 3.5-mile loop is the kind of route that's hard to find in winter months because it actually closes on itself instead of requiring a shuttle or a backtrack. Halfway through, the group stops at a fire for hot cider, conversation and pictures before finishing the second half of the loop.
Once you're back, you head to a local smokehouse where the owner greets you with a charcuterie board of samples (jerky, smoked cheeses, smoked trout, smoked salmon), so you can taste what you're ordering. You can then order sandwiches and sit down for lunch before heading back to the meeting location. The whole trip runs about four hours round trip, which leaves the rest of your day open.
Bottled water and snacks are included. The guide speaks English and leads the hike. Children are welcome from age 12. Service animals are allowed on the trail.

Is this one for you?The four-hour round trip leaves your morning or afternoon free, depending on when you depart. If you want a winter hike that doesn't eat your whole day, this loop works. If you're looking for a full-day backcountry push, you'll want something longer.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (12 to 17 years). Children under 12 can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What's the difference between microspikes and snowshoes on this hike?
Microspikes are metal traction devices that strap under your boot and grip ice and packed snow directly, while snowshoes spread your weight across a wider surface. Microspikes let you move faster and feel the terrain better, which is why this guide uses them on looped trails where you're covering real distance instead of trudging through deep powder.
Is lunch included in the price, or do I order and pay separately at the smokehouse?
Lunch is included. You sample the smokehouse products on the charcuterie board, then order a sandwich from their menu and eat it as part of the tour before heading back.
How difficult is the 3.5-mile loop for someone who hikes occasionally but isn't training for anything?
The guide recommends at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The loop is three and a half miles with a fire stop halfway, so you're breaking it into two sections with a rest and hot cider in between. The microspikes handle the traction, so your effort goes into the distance and elevation, not into fighting the snow.
Does the guide pick me up from my hotel, or do I meet at the trailhead?
Pickup is included. The guide will collect you from your accommodation and drive you to the trailhead in an air-conditioned vehicle, then return you to the same location after lunch at the smokehouse.
What can I order for lunch at the smokehouse if I don't eat meat?
The reference material lists sandwiches as the lunch option at the smokehouse, which specializes in smoked meats and cheeses. Contact the operator before booking if you have dietary restrictions so they can confirm what vegetarian options are available.
