Guided Half-Day Hikes in the Catskills: Small Group or Private
A half-day in the Catskills with a guide who photographs you while you hike
A guided half-day hike in the Catskills with a New York State licensed guide, covering 2–5 miles over 3–4 hours at a pace matched to your group. The guide provides candid and posed photography throughout, loaner equipment (backpack, rain jacket, trekking poles), light snacks, and instruction on the area's geology and history. Groups stay under six hikers, and optional trail challenges let you push harder if you want to. Choose between a shared hike with other travelers or a private experience for your group alone.

The experience
You've got a free afternoon or a morning before you leave the region, and you want to move through the Catskill Mountains without spending the day planning a solo route. A guided hike handles the navigation and the route-finding, and a licensed guide adjusts the pace and the terrain on the day itself, so if your group is slower or faster, or if someone wants to skip an optional scramble, the hike bends to fit. The guide also handles the photography, which means you stay present instead of stopping every few minutes to frame a shot. You get candid action photos and posed shots at the views the guide knows.
The hike itself runs 3–4 hours and covers 2–5 miles, pitched between easy and moderate. You'll stop to learn about rock formations, plant life and the area's history as you move through the trails. If the group wants to tackle optional challenges along the way (steeper pitches, scrambles, or trickier terrain), the guide can work those in. If not, the main route stays accessible. Light snacks come with you, and the guide provides loaner gear: a backpack, rain jacket and trekking poles if you need them. Parking and trail fees are covered.
Bring sturdy, closed-toed shoes (boots are encouraged), a windbreaker or jacket, hat, sunglasses, water and any personal medications. You'll sign a liability waiver before you start. Dogs are welcome if they're leashed, non-aggressive and current on rabies vaccination. Just let the operator know beforehand so they can plan the route around your pup.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
How do I know if the hike will be too hard for my fitness level?
Half-day hikes in the Catskills lean between easy and moderate difficulty, and the guide adjusts the route and pace on the day to match your group's fitness and speed. Optional challenges let you push harder if you want to, but they're not required. The main trail stays accessible for all levels. No prior hiking experience is necessary.
What happens if the weather turns bad during the hike?
You'll bring a windbreaker or light jacket and raincoat, and the guide will have you covered with loaner rain jackets as well. The hike proceeds in typical weather. If conditions become unsafe, the operator will reschedule or cancel and offer a full refund.
Can I bring my dog on the hike?
Dogs are welcome on the trail if they're leashed, non-aggressive and current on rabies vaccination. Let the operator know before you book so they can plan the route and pace with your dog in mind.
What's the difference between a private hike and a shared one?
A shared hike includes other travelers in your group, capped at six hikers total. A private hike is for your group alone. Both include the same guide, photography, gear and snacks. Choose private if you want the full attention of the guide and the flexibility to set your own pace, or shared if you'd like to meet other hikers and split the cost.
Will I get photos from the hike?
Yes. The guide takes candid action shots and posed photos at scenic viewpoints throughout the hike, so you can keep your phone in your pocket and stay present. You'll receive the photos after the hike.
