A 4-hour guided rim tour of Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim that starts at the Visitor Center and travels Desert View Drive, stopping at 4–5 overlooks on the park's east side. Your guide connects Grand Canyon geology, the Colorado River, and Native American history to the biblical account of Creation and the Flood. The tour includes an air-conditioned vehicle, water, binoculars, blankets and umbrellas; park entry is separate.

The Experience

The tour meets at the flagpole outside the Grand Canyon Visitor Center and departs in an air-conditioned vehicle along Desert View Drive. Your guide starts with an introduction to the canyon's geology and lays out the biblical framework—the Flood from Genesis—that shapes the rest of the morning. This opening stop sets the foundation for what you'll see at each overlook.

Grandview Point is your first major stop, where the guide discusses the Wild West mining history of the early park and raises questions about whether the Colorado River alone carved the canyon. From there you move to Lipan Point, one of the tour's centerpieces: here you see the Great Unconformity, the Cambrian Explosion, and the Tapeats Sandstone—rock formations the guide interprets as evidence of a global Flood. You'll also spot one of the canyon's largest rapids and learn about the Ancestral Puebloans who lived on the Unkar Delta far below. A later stop takes in the Vermilion and Echo Cliffs, the Painted Desert in the distance, and the Desert View Watchtower, completed in 1932. The tour concludes at Moran Point with river and rapids views before returning you to the Visitor Center.

The route is not scripted: your guide has flexibility to adjust stops based on weather, seasons, or how the park is flowing that day, and can respond to your group's interests. You'll have binoculars, blankets, umbrellas and bottled water throughout. Park entry is not included and must be paid separately at the gate or with a National Park Pass (valid for 7 days of unlimited use).
