- Walk along Rim Trail and learn geology
- Photo stop at Grandview Point

- Watch IMAX film at Visitor Center
The experience
The tour departs in an open-air Jeep Wrangler and hits the Rim Trail first, where you walk a short stretch and hear from your guide about how the canyon's multi-layered sandstone formations took shape. From there, you stop at Grandview Point to photograph the rock formations and learn about the local flora, fauna, and the history of mining and tourism in the area. The real draw comes at Pipe Creek Vista, where you settle in to watch the sunset as light moves across the canyon walls: shadows fill entire gorges while the rock faces turn orange, rust and red.
After the sun drops, you head back to the National Geographic Visitor Center to watch the included IMAX film, a 34-minute overview of Grand Canyon National Park. You choose whether to watch it before or after the tour itself, so the timing fits the rest of your day. All entrance fees and round-trip transportation are built in, and the guide is there throughout to answer questions and point out details most visitors miss on their own.
US residents aged 16 and older need a verified ID on the day of the tour. Non-US residents pay an additional $100 per person, though this fee is waived if you hold an America the Beautiful pass (up to four people). Children from age two are welcome, and the tour suits all fitness levels. Service animals are allowed.

What exactly is Pipe Creek Vista and why is it the main stop?
Pipe Creek Vista is a viewpoint on the South Rim where you watch the sunset over the canyon. It's the centerpiece of the tour because the light and shadows at that hour transform the rock formations: the canyon walls blaze with color as the sun descends, making it the most dramatic moment of the day.
Do I need to bring anything or meet anywhere specific?
Bring a verified ID if you're a US resident aged 16 or older. It's required by the National Park Service. The tour includes round-trip transportation, so you'll be picked up and returned to a meeting point. Wear layers, as temperatures drop after sunset.

Yes, the IMAX ticket is free with your tour. The 34-minute film "The Hidden Secrets" covers Grand Canyon information, and you can watch it either before the sunset tour or after, depending on what fits your day better.
