The experience

The tour moves through downtown on foot, stopping at a French pastry shop, a pickle maker, a cupcake bakery, a balsamic vinegar and olive oil importer, and a spice and tea merchant. At each one you'll get a sample, or several, and choose something to take home: your own pastry, a jar of pickles, a cupcake, or a blend you want to try later. The guide explains how each business works and what makes it different, and you'll have time to ask questions and talk with the owners themselves.

The two-hour walk covers the heart of downtown, moving between places that aren't on the usual tourist circuit. You come hungry and leave with five small items in hand, plus the stories of the people who make them. The spice merchant alone stocks over 70 loose leaf teas, and you'll get to sample the aromas before choosing a hot or iced tea to take with you.
