The Experience
The day starts with a drive from Miami to Everglades National Park, where your guide covers the park's history on the way in. You'll stop at the Visitor's Center to collect park maps and stamps, then move into the three hikes that make up the core of the tour. The Anhinga Trail takes you through the "River of Grass" region where American alligators are most visible, alongside native birds, fish and turtles. From there you'll walk the Pinelands habitat—only 5% of this rocky ecosystem remains in Florida, and it shelters threatened and endangered species like butterflies and snails. The third hike moves through a tropical hardwood hammock, a unique Florida ecosystem where mahogany and Gumbo Limbo trees grow among ferns; barred owls and other birds occasionally appear here.
The 90-minute boat trip cuts through the second-largest mangrove forest in the world. You'll scan for White Pelicans, Flamingos, dolphins, crocodiles, manatees and more as the boat moves through the backcountry. After the boat returns, a picnic lunch with vegan and vegetarian choices waits, along with snacks and drinks provided throughout the day. The tour wraps with a stop at a local fruit stand where you can grab a smoothie or milkshake if you want one.
Your guide is either a Florida Master Naturalist or a trained biologist—not a general tour operator. The group stays under 12 people, which keeps the pace manageable and the sightlines clear. All park fees are included in the price, so there's no separate entrance charge. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and water is refillable throughout the day. Wheelchair-accessible areas and surfaces are available, and the tour suits all fitness levels.
