The experience
The route runs north along the beach bike trail from Redondo Pier, passing through three beach towns before reaching Santa Monica. You'll roll past the Hermosa Beach Pier and its small aquarium, then the Manhattan Beach Pier, where the trail opens toward Marina Del Rey. Watch for dolphin sightings along this stretch, and stop for snacks at Playa Provisions if you want them. The path curves around the marina (good for birdwatching and photos of sailboats leaving the harbor) before heading to Venice Beach and the Santa Monica Pier. The e-bikes handle the full distance on one charge, so you set the pace and choose which stops matter to you.
The Redondo Beach Pier itself is worth time before or after your ride: one of California's few wooden piers, it has restaurants, shops, live music on weekends and activities like fishing and whale-watching cruises. You get an orientation to the e-bike when you pick it up, so you'll know how to handle the motor and brakes. Helmets and locks are included. A liability waiver is required before you ride. The shop is easy to find in the parking structure, and the lot has flexible time limits, so you're not rushed getting ready.
If you prefer a guide, Saturday departures run the same route with someone who knows the stops and can point out what's worth your time. Other rental lengths are available for the self-guided option if four hours feels too short or too long for your pace.
