The Experience

The boat leaves Fish Creek and heads out along Peninsula State Park's 7-mile shoreline. Within the first stretch, you pass Eagle Bluff Lighthouse, constructed in 1848 from Cream City Brick, and learn about its sister lighthouse on Chambers Island. The guide walks you through the area's deep history—how this body of water was once part of the Silurian Sea—as you move closer to Eagle Bluff itself, where the rock formations high above show the caves that mark that ancient seabed.

From there, the route takes you past Horseshoe Island, known as one of the safest natural harbors in the Great Lakes, and then heads out between the Strawberry Islands, where nesting white pelicans are often visible. On the return to Fish Creek, you'll see Chambers Island in the distance and get a clear view of the Niagara Escarpment. The whole arc—lighthouse, caves, islands, and the escarpment—is something you can only see from the water.
