Ride waves and watch dolphins from a boat that sits lower in the water than most

The Hydro Rocket Dolphin Sightseeing Boat Tour is a 1-hour jet ski–speed cruise from Destin that takes you into the Gulf of Mexico to search for dolphins and wildlife while riding the waves along the coastline. You'll pass Crab Island and return through the East Pass under the Destin Bridge, with your captain stopping for photos and answering questions throughout. Ages 5 and up only, due to Coast Guard height restrictions.

The Experience

Want to see dolphins without spending half your day on the water? This tour runs just 1 hour, so it fits into a morning or afternoon without eating up your whole vacation. You start in Destin Harbor, passing Harborwalk Village and the Destin Bridge as you head toward the East Pass. Once you clear the no-wake zone, the boat accelerates and you begin riding the Gulf swells while searching for dolphins and other wildlife along the coastline.

The boat sits lower in the water than most sightseeing vessels, which means when dolphins appear, you get a closer view and better angles for photos. Your captain and crew will slow down to let you watch and take pictures, and they'll answer questions about what you're seeing. After you've spent time with the dolphins, you continue cruising the coastline and riding the waves until you head back through the East Pass, pass under the Destin Bridge, and swing by Crab Island before returning to the harbor.

The tour includes all fees and taxes. You're welcome to bring drinks onboard as long as they're not in glass containers. Parking at the harbor typically runs $10–$20. Children ages 5 and up can ride; younger children cannot due to Coast Guard height restrictions.

What’s included

  • All fees and taxes.
  • a live English-speaking captain and crew who stop for photo opportunities and answer questions throughout the tour.
  • views of Harborwalk Village, the Destin Bridge, the East Pass, Crab Island, and the Gulf coastline.

Is this one for you?Book this tour if you're traveling with a small group or family and want to see dolphins without committing to a long boat ride. The 1-hour length keeps it quick, and the jet ski speed and low-water position give you a different angle on the Gulf than standard sightseeing boats—just know that wave riding and speed mean this is an active, physical experience, not a calm cruise.

Top questions

How close do you actually get to the dolphins on this tour?

The boat sits lower in the water than most sightseeing boats, which gives you a closer view when dolphins appear. Your captain will slow down and position the boat so you can watch and photograph them in their natural habitat.

Is this tour rough or smooth on the water?

The Hydro Rocket is built for speed and wave riding, so you'll feel the Gulf swells as you cruise. The tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy, and you should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness to enjoy it comfortably.

What happens if we don't see dolphins?

Your captain and crew will search the coastline and Gulf waters throughout the tour, but dolphin sightings are never guaranteed. The tour still includes the wave riding, views of Crab Island, and the full cruise route whether or not dolphins appear.

How long is the whole tour, and what's included?

The tour lasts 1 hour total. All fees and taxes are included in the price; you just need to budget for harbor parking, which is usually $10–$20.

Can my 4-year-old come along?

Children must be at least 5 years old due to Coast Guard height restrictions. Younger children cannot ride on this tour.
