itinerary

Step-by-step itinerary

Day 1 — Explore Denver's landmarks and Red Rocks

  • Start at historic Union Station
  • Pass by Meow Wolf Denver
  • View Denver's sports history sites
  • Visit Red Rocks Amphitheatre
  • Drive through Colorado town main street
  • Pass by Coors Brewery
  • See the Big Blue Bear at Convention Center
  • Explore RiNo Art District murals and market
  • Pass by Coors Field stadium
  • Pass by Elitch Gardens amusement park
  • View Dancer statues at Performing Arts Complex
  • End back at Union Station

We started at Union Station—honestly, I almost missed the group because I got distracted by the old clock and people-watching. Our guide (I think her name was Jamie?) waved us over with this big grin and handed out a map that looked like it’d seen some love. The shuttle was cozy but not cramped. As we rolled out of downtown Denver, she pointed out Meow Wolf (“You have to go if you like weird stuff,” she said), and then suddenly we were winding up toward Red Rocks. The air changed—smelled sharper somehow. Walking those amphitheater steps felt like a rite of passage; my legs burned in the best way. There was this older couple from Texas who made it all the way to the top before me—still kind of annoyed about that.

After Red Rocks, we cruised through this little Colorado town—I can’t remember the name now—and Jamie told us about Coors brewery. She joked about how the mountains on the can turn blue when your beer’s cold enough (“very important science,” apparently). We passed Empower Field and Coors Field too, both massive but in totally different ways. I liked how she slipped in stories about Denver’s sports history without sounding like a textbook. At one point someone asked about Elitch Gardens and she just laughed: “It’s chaos in summer.” Made me want to come back just for that.

The RiNo Art District was loud with color—murals everywhere you look, even on dumpsters. Jamie let us off for a quick wander down an alley that smelled faintly of spray paint and coffee. I tried to take photos but honestly none of them do it justice; there’s this one mural of a bear that just sticks with me. We swung past the Denver Performing Arts Complex next—the Dancer statues really do look like they’re stretching up forever—and then finally stopped at Little Man Ice Cream. The line moved fast; I got salted Oreo (no regrets). Sitting there with sticky fingers and city noise all around… I still think about that moment sometimes.
