The experience
The tour starts at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Duval Street, where the guide meets you outside the gates. Beneath the church lie hundreds of graves disturbed by storms over centuries, and locals report cold touches on warm nights, spectral figures in the stained glass, and a phantom priest pacing the pews. From there you move through Old Town Key West to the Artist House on Eaton Street, once home to painter Robert Eugene Otto and his cursed childhood doll, Robert. Strange footsteps and whispered conversations are still reported by guests, though Robert himself has moved to a museum.
The route passes through eight locations in 90 minutes, each with its own documented hauntings. Dean-Lopez Funeral Home holds the legend of Count Von Cassel, a mysterious European aristocrat said to linger in the embalming room. La Concha Hotel, once the tallest building in Key West, became a tragic magnet for suicides from its rooftop bar, and staff report guests who checked in but never checked out. Marrero's Guest Mansion carries the scent of rose perfume in empty rooms and the sound of soft weeping. The Oldest House and Audubon House both echo with the footsteps of shipwreck survivors and Civil War soldiers. Your final stop is Captain Tony's Saloon, built directly on the site of the original city morgue and hanging tree.
The guide is live and speaks English throughout. The tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or pregnant travelers, and requires at least a moderate level of physical fitness. All areas and surfaces are wheelchair accessible, and service animals are allowed. The tour is restricted to guests 16 and older.
