Crystal River Clear Kayak Tour: Three Sisters Springs & Manatees
Watch the springs from inside a clear kayak, not from above it.
A two-hour clear kayak tour in Crystal River, Florida, where you paddle Kings Bay and either swim at Three Sisters Springs (April–November) or watch manatees from the hull during their warm-season refuge (November–March). Small groups of up to ten, expert local guides, and 100% transparent kayaks let you see turtles, fish, and the limestone floor passing beneath you. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed; cold days bring the most manatees.

The Experience
You arrive in Crystal River with a free afternoon and no plan to fill it, or you've booked a manatee-season trip and need to know what actually happens on the water. Kings Bay is the spring-fed heart of the area — a network of more than 30 natural springs holding a constant 72 degrees. The clear kayak sits low enough that you watch turtles, fish, and birds move beneath you through the hull, and the limestone floor stays visible the whole time. Your guide is a local who knows the water and the wildlife, and the group stays under ten people.
Which tour you paddle depends on when you book. April through November, you paddle to Three Sisters Springs — one of Florida's most striking spring systems, turquoise and spring-fed, with time to get out and swim in water that never changes temperature. November 15 through March 31, Three Sisters becomes a protected manatee sanctuary closed to paddlers, so you stay in the surrounding warm springs of Kings Bay instead, where hundreds of manatees gather to escape the cold Gulf. On manatee-season tours, you watch them through the clear hull and practice passive observation only — no wetsuit, no getting in the water. Cold days are the best manatee days. The whole outing runs two hours, and your guide photographs the day and sends the images along.
You bring a valid driver's license, wear the Coast Guard-approved life jacket provided, and paddle with the paddles and dry bag the tour includes. The kayak is a tandem (two-seat), so you're not paddling alone. A $5 parking fee is payable at the kiosk when you arrive; bring cash or card. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, and the tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or over 250 pounds per seat (425 pounds total per kayak).

What's the difference between the Three Sisters Springs tour and the Manatee Season tour?
Three Sisters Springs runs April 1 through November 14 and includes time to swim in the turquoise, 72-degree spring; manatees are occasional in warmer months. Manatee Season runs November 15 through March 31, when hundreds of manatees gather in Kings Bay's warm springs, and you watch them from the clear kayak without entering the water — it's a no-swim tour following FWC passive-observation guidelines.
Can I see manatees on the Three Sisters Springs tour?
Manatees are occasional during the Three Sisters tour (April–November) because they're not concentrated in the springs during warmer months. The Manatee Season tour (November–March) is when hundreds move into Kings Bay to escape the cold Gulf, so sightings are far more likely then — though wildlife is never guaranteed.
Do I have to get in the water?
On the Three Sisters Springs tour (April–November), you have time to swim in the spring if you want to. On the Manatee Season tour (November–March), you stay in the kayak and watch from the hull; getting in the water is not part of this tour.
What can I see through the clear kayak?
The clear hull lets you watch turtles, fish, and birds moving beneath you, and you can see the limestone floor and spring formations directly below. In Kings Bay, the water is 72 degrees year-round and visibility is clear enough to see the spring-fed bottom.
How many people are on the tour?
Groups stay at a maximum of ten travelers, so it's a small-group experience. You'll paddle a tandem (two-seat) clear kayak with one other person.
What's included in the tour price?
The tour includes the clear tandem kayak, paddles, Coast Guard-approved life jacket, dry bag for phones and valuables, expert local guide, photos taken by your guide, and an exclusive Crystal River sticker. Food and drinks are not included; a $5 parking fee is payable separately at the kiosk on arrival.
