Two hours through Chicago's landmarks in a climate-controlled minibus

You ride in a climate-controlled minibus for two hours, stopping at eight major landmarks including Cloud Gate, Grant Park, and the Field Museum. Your private guide shares stories and history at each stop, and you get photo time at Museum Campus and Buckingham Fountain. The minibus picks you up and returns you without the hassle of driving or public transit.

2h

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Start at Palmer House hotel
  • Drive past Soldier Field stadium
  • Pass by Field Museum
  • Stop at Museum Campus for photos
  • Visit Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park
  • Cruise past Cloud Gate sculpture
  • Drive down North Michigan Avenue
  • Pass Water Tower Place
  • Visit Rookery Building (closed Sunday)
  • Drive along Lake Shore Drive

The Experience

The minibus is already rolling when you settle into your seat—the driver navigates toward the Palmer House, one of America's oldest continuously operating hotels, and your guide starts talking about the brownie, which was invented in its kitchen back in 1893. It's the kind of detail that sticks with you, the sort of thing you'd miss if you were driving yourself. The vehicle itself is sleek and quiet, with panoramic windows that frame the city as you move through it, and the air conditioning keeps everything comfortable even on a warm day.

From there the route unfolds in a logical sweep: past Soldier Field with its strange, spaceship-meets-classical architecture, then the Field Museum where Sue—the most complete T. rex skeleton ever found—lives behind glass. You'll stop at Museum Campus for a postcard view of the skyline and lake, then roll into Grant Park to see Buckingham Fountain with the city rising behind it. The guide points out how the fountain's water shows sync with the hour, and you get time to step out and shoot. Cloud Gate, the mirrored sculpture everyone calls "The Bean," comes next—it's impossible to photograph badly because the thing reflects everything around it, warping the skyline into something that looks almost alive.

The tour moves north along Lake Shore Drive, where the water and the buildings trade places in your view depending on which side of the minibus you're sitting on. You'll pass the Magnificent Mile, that stretch of North Michigan Avenue lined with luxury shops and tall buildings, and stop at Water Tower Place, one of the few structures that survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. If it's not Sunday, the guide will take you inside the Rookery Building—a Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece and one of the world's first skyscrapers—so you can see the ornate lobby and understand why architects still talk about it. The whole thing takes two hours, and by the end you've covered the essential Chicago without the stress of parking or navigation.
