The experience

What makes this tour different is the vehicle itself: you ride in a three-person motorcycle sidecar with your guide at the helm, not in a van or bus. Two passengers sit in the sidecar and one behind the driver, and everyone wears a helmet equipped with a SENA communication system so you can hear the guide and talk to each other throughout the ride. The route starts with a slow-paced loop through Oceanside, passing the Ocean Beach Pier (one of the oldest and longest wooden piers on the West Coast), then moves to the beachside promenade where surfers work the waves year-round.

The tour stops at San Luis Rey Mission, one of the oldest and largest original California missions, before heading to Deer Park Winery. There, admission and wine tasting are included, and you'll also tour an auto museum that houses hundreds of vehicles and Americana collections: a world-famous collection of American convertibles, vintage radios and televisions, antique bicycles, appliances, cameras, classic gas pumps, a Coca-Cola room of collectibles, and a Barbie doll room. The tour is private and highly customizable. You can start or end in Carlsbad if you prefer, and on Thursday mornings or afternoons you can add the farmers market or the sunset market to your route. A convertible top on the sidecar closes in case of rain.

Pets are welcome to ride along. Bottled water is provided, and the three-hour tour includes all transportation and the winery admission and tasting. Your guide is a live person who speaks your language and can adjust the pace and stops to what interests you most.
