The Experience
The raft pushes off from the meeting spot and you're on the water almost immediately. The Arkansas River's 'Milk Run' section near Buena Vista is where families and first-timers go—Class I and II+ rapids that move fast enough to feel real but not so fast that anyone's gripping the sides in panic. The Sawatch Range rises up on both sides, and your guide points out where Mule Deer come down to drink in the early morning, and if you're lucky, Bighorn Sheep on the higher rocks. About an hour on the river, start to finish, which means you're not exhausted by the time you get back but you've actually done something.
The gear shows up before you do—wetsuits that fit, helmets, paddles, the whole setup. You don't have to rent anything separately or figure out what you need; it's all there. Your guide talks through the rapids as you approach them, explains what's coming, and tells stories about the area's geology while you're floating the calmer sections. Small groups mean you're not packed in with thirty people, and the whole thing has the feel of people who actually know this stretch of river and want you to have a good time on it.
Round-trip transport from the meeting location is included, so you're not driving yourself wet and tired afterward. The whole experience—gear, guide, transport—is built around families and people who've never done this before, which means nobody's rushing you or making you feel like you should already know what you're doing.
What’s included
- Neoprene wetsuits and all required river equipment.
- round-trip transportation from the meeting location.
- professional guide with knowledge of local geology and wildlife.
