The experience

The raft pushes off from the meeting spot and you're on the water almost immediately. The Arkansas River's 'Milk Run' section near Buena Vista is where families and first-timers go: Class I and II+ rapids that move fast enough to feel real but not so fast that anyone's gripping the sides in panic. The Sawatch Range rises up on both sides, and your guide points out where Mule Deer come down to drink in the early morning, and if you're lucky, Bighorn Sheep on the higher rocks.
