ATV Riding on Hell's Revenge Trail, Moab: Expert driver in custom rock buggy
A rock buggy climbs near-vertical slickrock while you grip the roll cage.
A 2.5-hour ride-along on Hell's Revenge trail in Moab puts you in a custom-built rock buggy piloted by a professional driver through some of the region's most extreme terrain. You'll climb near-vertical rock faces, drop into steep descents, and stop at Abyss overlook for views and snacks, the Colorado River viewpoint, and preserved dinosaur tracks right off the trail.
Step-by-step itinerary
Off-road adventure on Hell's Revenge trail
- Ride in custom-built rock buggy
- Stop at Abyss for photos and snacks
- Visit Colorado River Overlook for pictures
- Explore dinosaur tracks along trail
The experience
The buggy leaves the Sand Flats Recreation Area and heads straight into terrain most vehicles can't handle. Your driver maneuvers the machine through slickrock obstacles, over ledges and into descents that feel vertical from the passenger seat. The custom build (reinforced frame, specialized suspension, aggressive tires) is what makes it possible. You're along to feel the raw power of it without operating the controls yourself.
Three stops break up the ride. At Abyss, a canyon overlook along Hell's Revenge and Slickrock trails, you get out to stretch, grab snacks and drinks, and take pictures of the landscape. The Colorado River Overlook comes next, a less-traveled spur that opens onto water views and a chance to see why riders come back to this trail. The final stop is at dinosaur tracks preserved in the rock just off the path: Moab's geological history laid bare, and time to walk and explore before heading back.
A safety briefing happens before you climb in. The whole outing runs 2.5 hours from start to finish, which leaves the rest of your day open for town, food, or another activity in the area.
