The experience

Lake Tahoe's backcountry opens up when you ride an ATV instead of watching from a car. After meeting at the office on Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe, you'll shuttle to the trailhead, sit through a safety briefing built for beginners, and get hands-on practice time before the actual ride. That setup means you're not thrown onto unfamiliar terrain cold. You get comfortable with the machine first, then ride it.

The ride itself winds through forest trails and mountain landscapes toward a hidden alpine lake tucked into the Tahoe wilderness. Once there, you can swim during warmer months, take photos, rest by the water, or eat snacks and lunch you've brought along. The whole thing (shuttle both ways, briefing, practice, the ride to the lake and back) takes 3 hours, which leaves the rest of your day open for other activities in South Lake Tahoe.

A live guide leads the entire experience in English. Fuel, helmet, and ATV rental are included. You just need to be 18 or older and arrive 15 minutes early for check-in.
