The Experience
“You know, they actually had to repaint the Wheeler house three times,” our guide said, shaking his head like he still couldn’t believe it. We were parked right outside the neat little house that’s supposed to be in Indiana but sits quietly in an Atlanta suburb. It was weirdly familiar — like déjà vu from binging too many episodes. The air smelled like fresh-cut grass and something sweet from a neighbor’s grill. I half-expected Dustin to roll by on his bike.
The tour zigzags all over Atlanta and then down into these small towns south of the city — places I’d never have found on my own. Our driver (I think his name was Marcus?) seemed to know every shortcut and bit of trivia. He pointed out Hawkins Middle School and then just let us wander the sidewalk for a minute. It was quieter than I expected, almost echoey, with that schoolyard smell of old concrete and sun-warmed metal. I tried to picture Mike and Lucas arguing about D&D somewhere behind those doors.
We got to see Screen Gems Studios from the outside — not glamorous, but cool in a “that’s where it really happens” way. The Brimborn Steelworks stop was honestly creepier than I thought it would be; maybe it was just the cloudy sky or how empty it felt. At Hawkins Pool, I could practically hear Billy’s whistle (and yes, someone did try to re-enact his slow walk). There’s bottled water in the van, which is good because Atlanta gets sticky fast in summer.
I didn’t expect to feel so much nostalgia for a show that isn’t even that old yet. But seeing these Stranger Things filming locations up close made everything feel more real — or maybe just more fun? Either way, I still think about those quiet streets and how ordinary places can turn strange when you look at them differently.
What’s included
Your day includes private transportation between all Stranger Things filming locations around Atlanta and nearby rural towns; there’s always bottled water waiting in the van so you won’t overheat while exploring schoolyards or snapping photos at Brimborn Steelworks before heading back to town together at the end.
