The Experience

The first thing I noticed was how normal the Nigerian marketplace looked—just a block in downtown Atlanta, but our guide Marcus grinned and said, “Cap fought right over there.” I half expected to see someone in spandex. I kept thinking about how many times I’d walked past these places without knowing what happened here, at least on screen.

We stopped at Peter Parker’s high school—real kids heading to class, not a superhero in sight. Someone in our group tried to recreate Spider-Man’s backpack toss in the alley (it didn’t go well). The air smelled like cut grass and exhaust, which somehow made it feel more real than any CGI could. At the basketball court from Black Panther, two guys were shooting hoops and didn’t even look up when Marcus pointed out where Killmonger stood. It’s funny—these spots are famous to fans but just part of daily life here.

I didn’t expect to get goosebumps outside the “Avengers Headquarters,” but standing there with the late afternoon sun bouncing off glass, it hit me that so many of these stories started as sketches and ended up changing this city. Marcus told us about crews setting up at dawn, actors sneaking coffee at tiny diners nearby. There’s something weirdly moving about seeing Isaiah Bradley’s house or the Flag Smashers’ warehouse when you know what those scenes meant for people watching at home. By the end, we were all trading favorite MCU moments—someone even got choked up talking about Steve and Peggy’s dance.
