The day starts with the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, where you'll see Alaska's big wildlife — moose, bears, caribou and other animals in their habitat. From there, the route heads south toward Portage, passing through the Anchorage Coastal Wildlife Refuge, Potter Marsh, Beluga Point, Indian Valley and Bird Creek. These stops let you watch the landscape and wildlife from the vehicle as the guide shares the history and culture of Anchorage and why this place matters to those who live here.
The 60-minute Portage Glacier cruise is the centerpiece. You board a boat and float on the water in front of the glacier itself — the itinerary notes this hour will be the most interesting part of your time in Anchorage.
