The experience

You arrive at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge ready to paddle, not to sit and watch. The two-hour trip puts you in your own kayak on water that cuts through 125,000 acres of managed habitat: the kind of place where black bears still roam and endangered red wolves hunt. A live guide leads the route and knows where to find them: alligators sunning on banks, snowy egrets wading the shallows, great blue herons standing motionless, river otters sliding between channels, osprey diving for fish.
