The experience

Olympic National Park spans three distinct ecosystems across the Olympic Peninsula, and this 2-day tour moves through all of them. Your guide, a medically trained naturalist, drives you in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and leads hikes calibrated to what your group can handle. Day one focuses on the mountains and lakes: depending on conditions, you'll start or end at Hurricane Ridge, where clear days show endless views over the rugged, glaciated Olympic peaks. From there you walk through the forests alongside Lake Crescent, a gem-like alpine lake where the water is cold and clear enough to swim in on a hot day. The afternoon takes you to Sol Duc Falls, where three waterfalls flow together in the dense forest of the inner peninsula.

Day two shifts to the rainforest and coast. The Hoh is a temperate rainforest that once stretched as far north as Alaska. Mosses and ferns hang from the trees and create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the park. Your guide times the schedule around the tides so you can explore the tide pools of the shore, which teem with starfish, anemones, and other aquatic life. You'll see the Big Cedar Tree, an ancient giant on the peninsula, and walk along the Pacific with massive rock formations rising from the water. Depending on tide levels, you may reach the Tree of Life, where roots grow as a roof over a sea cave.

Park entry, transportation, and the guide's expertise are all included. Pickup is arranged for you, so you arrive ready to walk and observe rather than navigate logistics.
