A 5-hour kayaking and snorkeling activity in St. John combines paddling across Caneel Bay, snorkeling around the uninhabited Henley Cay within Virgin Islands National Park, a guided hike on the Lind Point Trail into Honeymoon Beach, and a picnic lunch. The tour includes all equipment, instruction, and meets at Mongoose Junction in Cruz Bay; water at Henley Cay can be choppy at times.
The Experience
Five hours starts at Mongoose Junction in Cruz Bay, where you meet your guide and get fitted with a life jacket and snorkeling gear. A few blocks down to Cruz Bay Beach, you get paddling instruction, then kayak to Scott Beach to snorkel with sea turtles. From there you paddle across Caneel Bay to a deserted beach accessible only by boat, then continue to Honeymoon Beach where you eat lunch and snorkel around Solomon Beach before paddling back to Cruz Bay.
The reef around Henley Cay holds brain, pillar, sheet and star coral, plus the endangered elkhorn and staghorn varieties — all within Virgin Islands National Park. Water there can get choppy, so the guide will assess conditions and adjust the route if needed. You'll have a small chocolate bar and bottled water throughout the day, and locker rooms and restrooms are available at the outfitters store.
The hike into Honeymoon Beach follows the Lind Point Trail and is guided, so you're not navigating on your own. Bring a swimsuit and footwear that can get wet; the operator notes this tour isn't suitable for children.
