The Experience

You board at the Frederiksted pier and head out on the Jolly Mon, a custom catamaran built for these waters. The boat sails along the West End of St Croix, and depending on the wind, sometimes rounds Sandy Point to look for sea turtle tracks in the National Wildlife Refuge. The route is designed so you're facing west as the light drops—the reason this sail is rated the number one sunset experience on the island. Most other sunset tours operate from the shore or anchor in spots where the horizon fills with land; here you're on the water watching it happen.

Live music plays throughout the sail, performed by local and visiting musicians. The crew keeps rum punch flowing—made with real Cruzan Rum, or fruit punch and filtered water if you prefer—and the whole thing lasts about two and a half hours. You'll see the historic Frederiksted waterfront recede as you sail, and if conditions align, you might catch the green flash as the sun dips below the horizon. Shoes come off on board (medical exceptions made), and the waters of the West End stay calm enough that the ride itself is part of the ease.
