The Experience
The first thing that hit me was the salty air—kind of sharp, mixed with the faint smell of fuel from the harbor at Jumeirah 1. We met our guide right by the Fishing Harbour, where fishing boats bobbed quietly next to some pretty serious jet skis. The instructor handed out safety jackets and gave us a quick rundown—nothing fancy, just straight talk about what to expect out on the water. I stashed my phone and wallet in one of their lockers (free, thankfully), then grabbed a bottle of water before heading down to the dock.
Once I got on the Yamaha FX Wave Runner, it felt solid—like it meant business. The first ten minutes were all about getting used to the throttle while the city skyline crept up behind us. You can’t really miss the Burj Khalifa—it’s always there, poking above everything else. Our escort rode alongside, snapping photos as we zipped past Sheikh Zayed Road’s towers and slowed near the Burj Al Arab for a breather. The sea spray was cool on my face; honestly, I didn’t expect how loud and alive everything would feel out there. Afterward, back on shore, they handed out fresh juice—cold and sweet—which hit just right after all that sun and salt.
