The Experience

The tour departs from your Dubai hotel and heads inland toward the Hajar Mountains, where Hatta sits in a valley surrounded by peaks. The drive itself takes you through the landscape change — from the city to the foothills — and the guide narrates the route. Once there, the day splits between three main stops: the Heritage Village, Hatta Hill Park, and the water dam area, with flexibility to spend more time at whichever appeals to you.

Hatta Heritage Village is the oldest settlement in the area, with stone houses and water wells reconstructed to show how people lived around 300 BC. You walk through the restored compound, see the two observatory towers and the fort, and visit a small museum with old household tools and weapons. The Al-Sharia palm farm demonstrates the falaj, the ancient irrigation system that made life in the mountains possible. This part is walking at a leisurely pace through a compact, shaded site.

Hatta Hill Park sits on a mountain with a tower at the highest point; climbing it gives you views across the Hajar range and down into the village. The park also has running tracks and sports fields if you want to move around, but most visitors spend time at the summit and taking photographs. The water dam and Hatta Leem Lake lie nearby — you can drive along the water's edge and stop for photos, or add kayaking as an optional activity (rentals start at AED60 for kayaks, canoes and paddle boats through Hatta Kayak, and you must use their equipment). The dam area is where the landscape opens up and the water reflects the mountains.

The tour runs about six hours total, including driving time and stops. Your guide is English-speaking and travels with you in a 4WD vehicle with air conditioning. The pace is set for sightseeing and photography rather than strenuous hiking, though the hill climb and walking through the village involve some steps and uneven ground.
