The experience

You're picked up from your Dubai hotel in a 4x4 Land Cruiser and driven to the Red Dunes Desert. Once there, a safety briefing and protective gear get you ready, then you rev up a quad bike and ride across the rolling sandbanks for 30–35 minutes: the part you control, snapping photos of the desert landscape as you go. After the ride, you strap a sandboard under your feet and slide down the dunes with guidance, then mount a camel for a slower, traditional desert pace.

The 4x4 takes over next with dune bashing (a thrilling ride across the golden sand in a powerful vehicle), while you watch the sunset. By evening you're at the desert camp, where a BBQ buffet spreads grilled meats, salads and traditional sweets across the table. Eight live acts unfold around you: four belly dances, two tanoura spins, two fire shows and a stick man performance. Between courses, women and kids can get henna painted and dress in Arabic costumes for photos at the picture point.

The whole experience runs about six hours from pickup to drop-off. If you want the quad biking included, you'll select that option at checkout: some packages bundle it, others add it separately. Tea, coffee, Arabic sweets, mineral water and soft drinks flow throughout the evening.
