The experience

You get picked up from your hotel in a 4x4 and driven to the desert, arriving in time to ride a quad bike across the red dunes as the light starts to shift. The quad is yours to operate. You control the speed and line across the smooth sand. After the ride, you move to a camel for a slower pass through the landscape, then settle into the desert camp as the sun drops. The camp is where the evening opens up: you watch a Tanoura dancer in the traditional spinning skirt, then a Khaliji dancer, then a fire show. Between performances, a henna artist works on your hands, a falconer brings a bird for a photo, and someone dresses you in Arabian costume for pictures.

Dinner is a spread of Arabic BBQ (meat and vegetarian dishes, starters, and the sweet fried pastries called gaymat) served with shisha smoke, tea, coffee and gawa (a spiced drink). The whole evening runs about 7 hours from pickup to dropoff. Water and soft drinks flow throughout, and the guide speaks English or Arabic depending on your group.
