The Experience
The 10-million-litre tank at Dubai Aquarium holds the largest collection of sand tiger sharks anywhere, along with rays, groupers and hundreds of other species moving through the water around you. You walk through an acrylic tunnel as the animals pass overhead and on both sides—the scale of it is the point. The aquarium occupies three floors of The Dubai Mall in Downtown Dubai, so the experience is built into the shopping complex itself; you enter, move through the levels at your own pace, and the tunnel is where most people spend time watching.
The zoo section adds a different set of animals on land. King Croc, the facility's signature resident, weighs 750 kilograms and measures over 5 meters long; the enclosure lets you see the scale of it. Beyond the crocodile are other species the zoo keeps, and a glass-bottom boat tour runs through part of the facility so you're looking down at animals from the water. Penguin Cove is included—a separate habitat within the same ticket.
Your ticket covers entry to all three sections: the main aquarium, the underwater zoo, and Penguin Cove. The whole visit runs between 30 minutes and an hour depending on how long you linger at each tank. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and strollers work on the floors. Public transport stops near Dubai Mall, so getting there doesn't require a car.
