A 3-hour private Easter egg painting workshop in Kyiv where you learn the traditional Ukrainian pysanka technique from a professional artist, create your own decorated egg, and take it home. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, and the guide speaks English, Russian or Ukrainian.

The experience

The workshop begins with pickup from your accommodation. A hostess introduces you to pysanka, the cornerstone of Ukrainian culture, and explains the symbolic images (sun, stars, flowers, animals) that decorate the eggs. The tradition dates back to pre-Christian times and is believed to bring happiness and prosperity. You'll learn what each symbol means and the five main colors used: yellow, red, green, blue and black.

To create an egg the traditional way, you work with wax, fire and water. The hostess shows you a collection of finished pysanky for inspiration, but the design you choose is entirely yours. As you work, you'll see how the wax resists the dye, building the pattern in layers. By the end of the three hours, you have a hand-made souvenir that carries the weight of Ukrainian tradition. Something you made yourself, not bought in a shop.

After the class, your driver takes you back to your hotel or apartment. The workshop suits all fitness levels and works whether you've painted before or never touched a brush.
