Step-by-step itinerary
Visit Rock Restaurant and Kuza Cave

The experience
The day starts at the Rock Restaurant, Zanzibar's most popular spot, where you'll have time for drinks and photos before heading inland. From there, the route takes you to Kuza Cave, a natural sinkhole carved into limestone and surrounded by jungle. The cave sits 50 meters across and is accessible by stairs and wooden decking: no climbing or scrambling required. A large rock formation shaped like an elephant sits inside, used by locals as an altar for offerings to the spirits believed to inhabit the cave.
Once at the cave, your guide walks you through artifacts and a timeline of Swahili history, tracing settlement patterns back to East Africa's earliest human origins. The crystal-clear mineral water pool fills the cave floor, and swimming here is the centerpiece of the visit. After you've swum and explored the surrounding rock formations, the group joins in Swahili singing and drumming, participation is optional. The water is cool at first but becomes relaxing once you're in.
The tour wraps with a Swahili cooking lesson where you prepare and eat a tasty lunch together. Bottled water is provided throughout, and the air-conditioned vehicle handles all transport between stops. The whole outing runs five hours from pickup to drop-off.
