Step-by-step itinerary

Private boat tour with snorkeling and exploration

  • Snorkeling at Emerald Reef
  • Relax and shell hunt at Fort George Cay
  • Barbecue seafood lunch with beer and rum punch
  • Visit Iguana Island to see rock iguanas
  • Visit La Famille ghost ship

The Experience

Eight hours on the water means you set the pace. The boat leaves your pickup point and heads straight to Emerald Reef, where you snorkel the best reef system on the island—the water is clear enough to see the bottom, and the reef holds parrotfish, grouper and smaller species moving through the coral. After you've had your fill of the water, the boat moves to Fort George Cay, where the captain starts the barbecue while you're still swimming. Lunch is seafood—lobster available if you want it—and the beer and rum punch flow all day.

Between the reef and lunch, the boat takes you to Iguana Island (also called Little Water Cay), where rock iguanas live on the beach and in the scrub. You can wade ashore and walk among them. A short run from there brings you to La Famille, a ghost ship wreck in shallow water you can see and explore. The whole arc of the day—snorkeling, islands, wreck, food—stays on your schedule because it's your boat and your group only.

Pickup and drop-off happen at your location, and the guide speaks English. Snorkeling equipment is on board. If you're traveling with infants or small children, they can come along in a stroller or pram.

Is this one for you?A private boat means your group sets the itinerary and the pace—you stay longer at the reef if the snorkeling is good, or skip ahead to the islands if you want. The captain handles the cooking and navigation, so nobody in your group is working.
