Step-by-step itinerary

Fishing and island activities

  • Cruise Turks and Caicos waters
  • Snorkel in clear waters
  • Visit La Famille Express shipwreck
  • Go fishing for snapper and grouper
  • Relax on Fort George Cay beach
  • Collect shells on the beach
  • Captain prepares catch for lunch

The Experience

The boat leaves the dock with a cooler, a captain who knows where the snapper are running, and the understanding that by lunch you'll be eating something you pulled out of the water yourself. Eight hours sounds long until you're standing on the deck of the Beauty, watching the Turks and Caicos water shift from turquoise to deep blue, and your line goes tight. The captain handles the heavy work — he knows the reefs, the wreck sites, the spots where grouper and parrot fish hold — but the rod is yours, and so is the fight.

Between casts you snorkel. The La Famille Express wreck sits shallow enough that you can see the whole structure, fish moving through the hull like it's been there for centuries instead of decades. Then you island-hop to Fort George Cay, where the water is so clear you can see your own shadow on the sand, and the shells are just lying there. The captain doesn't rush you. He's already firing up the grill, and whatever you caught that morning — snapper, grouper, whatever took your bait — is about to become lunch. Island-style means seasoned right, cooked hot, served on a plate with time to sit and not think about anything else.

The boat carries snorkeling gear, so you don't pack it. It carries drinks, so you're not rationing water in the sun. WiFi works on the vessel if you need to send a photo, though most people don't bother once they're out there. The vehicle that picks you up is air-conditioned on the way back, which matters after eight hours on the water. Small kids can come — the boat accommodates strollers, and there's shade — but this isn't a kids' activity pretending to be a family trip. It's a fishing day that happens to include snorkeling and a meal, and everyone on board is there for that reason.

What’s included

Hotel pickup in an air-conditioned vehicle, use of snorkeling equipment, fishing rods and tackle, snorkeling at the La Famille Express shipwreck, island-hopping to Fort George Cay, grilling and preparation of your catch, island-style lunch, and alcoholic beverages throughout the day. Free WiFi is available on the vessel.
