The experience

The day starts in darkness. A driver picks you up at your hotel and takes you to the launch area, where you'll watch the balloons being prepared while the landscape is still quiet. By the time you step into the basket, the sky is beginning to shift: the moment the burner fires and the balloon lifts off is when Pamukkale reveals itself from above. The white travertine terraces that look dramatic from the ground become something else entirely from the air: a patchwork of thermal pools catching the first light, with the surrounding valleys and ridges spreading out in every direction.

The flight lasts roughly an hour, long enough to circle the travertines, drift over the ancient city of Hierapolis perched on the ridge above, and watch the sunrise fully arrive.
