The experience
The day starts with a drive from Kas center to Üçağız village, where you board a 24-meter traditional wooden boat. The boat heads out across calm water toward Kekova, stopping first at Inonu Bay after roughly 1.5 hours of cruising. You swim in the open sea while the crew offers refreshments on deck, then continue toward Aquarium Bay, where the water is clear enough to see colorful fish. Lunch (grilled chicken, Turkish salads and appetizers) is cooked and served on board while you're still in the water or resting on the boat.
After lunch, the route takes you over Tersane, an ancient shipbuilding yard, and then directly over the sunken city itself. The remains of Lycian stone houses sit underwater, visible from the boat in the clear Mediterranean. You'll have time to photograph the submerged ruins before heading to Kalekoy, a village built on top of and among the ancient city's remains and reachable only by boat or on foot. An hour of free time there lets you walk the narrow streets, climb to the castle, see Lycian sarcophagi carved into the hillside, or buy homemade ice cream by the water.
The boat returns to Kas harbor by 6pm. A live guide in English or Turkish shares information throughout the day, and the crew handles all the stops and the meal. Afternoon tea and coffee are included. Alcoholic drinks are available to purchase.
